About Us

We are Pete & Nita Harksell, owners of Pete's Auto Repair, LLC. We both have deep roots in Whatcom County with our great-grandparents settling in the county in 1888-89. We both are graduates of Ferndale High School with Nita going on to the Bellingham Technical College in the field of office and accounting and Pete went to the GM School in Tigard, Oregon. We were married in 1978 and have one son, Peter, III who aquired his dads love for cars. Peter moved to Simi Valley, California in February 2006 when he went to work at his dream job. He is working with Steve Strope of Pure Vision building one of a kind 60's and 70's hotrods which Peter calls 'functional art'. You can see the cars and learn more about Pure Vision at www. purevisiondesign. com. Pete's dad leased the Exxon station a half mile south of our current location in 1969 and Pete started working for him at the age of 11, pushing a broom. While in high school, he worked evenings and weekends pumping gas and doing some mechanical work. After attending the GM school, Pete became the head mechanic at the service station. In 1991, Pete Sr. built the shop that we are currently located at. The business opened on July 1, 1991 with Pete and Nita purchasing the business and leasing the building on January 1, 1992. Pete has attended many classes throughout the years and is an ASE Certified Master Technician. Pete was named the 2016 NAPA Regional ASE Technician of the Year, which encompasses three states. We currently employ two other technicians and a service advisor.
